Dortmund sign Schurrle on five-year deal

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Germany forward Andre Schurrle on a five-year deal from Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg.

The financial terms were not disclosed for the deal, which is Dortmund s second major signing in as many days after Schurrle s fellow Germany international Mario Gotze sealed a return from Bayern Munich on Thursday.

Borussia Dortmund are one of the top clubs in Europe with a strong and extremely exciting squad, said the 25-year-old on the club s official website.

I know from personal experience how much power BVB can develop through interaction with fans and look forward to being able to experience that for the first time, not as an awestruck opponent but as part of the team.

In the coming years I want to celebrate success with Borussia Dortmund and I want to start training to convince the people that it was right to sign me.

Schurrle won the World Cup with Germany in 2014 and was part of Joachim Low s squad at Euro 2016, meaning he will join up with his new club team-mates next month.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man returned to the Bundesliga from Chelsea when he joined Wolfsburg midway through the 2014-15 season.

He began his senior career with Mainz and has 48 goals in 174 Bundesliga appearances, with 29 assists.

Andre Schurrle is a German national player with outstanding offensive potential, who is also very suitable in his defensive work, said Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc.

Despite only being 25, he has extensive international experience. His quality will be very valuable for our team.

Dortmund face Manchester United on Friday in Shanghai as part of their International Champions Cup.

Thomas Tuchel s men begin their Bundesliga campaign at home to Mainz on August 27.
