Guardiola: No pressure for more Toure heroics

Pep Guardiola insists there is no pressure on Yaya Toure to reclaim his role as Manchester City s talisman following the midfielder s sensational return to first-team action last weekend.

Toure had been frozen out after outspoken agent Dimitri Seluk criticised Guardiola for leaving his client out of City s squad for the group stage of the Champions League.

The 33-year-old belatedly offered an apology earlier this month and was a surprise inclusion in the starting line-up at Crystal Palace.

A lean and sharp Toure responded by netting both goals in a 2-1 win. It was a familiar sight for City fans, with the player having struck decisively on the way to multiple major honours since joining from Barcelona in 2010.

But Guardiola is not ready to saddle Toure wit…

Profile: Louis van Gaal

Following the appointment of Louis van Gaal as Manchester United manager, we profile the Dutchman and his impressive coaching career.

Alex Ferguson s 27-year tenure at Old Trafford was always going to prove a tough act to follow, and so it proved as successor David Moyes failed to stamp his authority on a United side that fell well short of defending its 13th Premier League title, won in Ferguson s last campaign at the helm.

United s record appearance maker Ryan Giggs took over on a brief interim basis but, following continuous speculation that Van Gaal would be the man to take the reins permanently, the announcement was made official on Monday, with the Dutchman signing a three-year contract, which will take effect after the FIFA World Cup.

Van Gaal has vast experienc…

Valverde leaves Barcelona: His Blaugrana reign in Opta numbers

Barcelona are looking for a new head coach after sacking Ernesto Valverde the man who led them to back-to-back LaLiga titles.

Valverde departs Camp Nou with the Blaugrana top of the table after 19 games in 2019-20, too.

Given his success with Barca, it seems a harsh decision, but do the numbers back that up?

With the help of Opta, we take a look at Valverde s two-and-a-half-year Barca reign.

69.5 per cent Valverde took charge of 95 LaLiga games as Barca boss, winning 66 of those, drawing 22 and losing just seven. That 69.5 per cent win ratio is the fifth best return in the club s history, with Tito Vilanova way out in front with 92.10 per cent.

69,5% Ernesto Valverde has won the 69,5% of his LaLiga games for (66 out of his 95 matche…

Navas interests Juventus

According to reports in Italy, Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas is receiving interest from Italian champions Juventus. Navas has often been viewed by many as one of the more underrated goalkeepers in European football, especially now that he’s having to play second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois who was brought into the fold back in the summer. Courtois has had a mixed start to life at the Bernabeu but given how much Real invested in him, it doesn’t seem as if he’s going to be leaving anytime soon.

The Costa Rican star would likely serve as a huge acquisition for any top club that are lucky enough to land his services, and it’ll be interesting to see how this story develops – especially if Real continue to struggle.

The 31 year old joined Real back in 2014 from…

Mo limits! Salah sets new Premier League scoring record

Mohamed Salah set a new record for the most goals in a 38-game Premier League season with Liverpool s opener against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday.

The Egypt forward swivelled inside the penalty area to fire home with his left foot in the 26th minute, taking his impressive tally in the league this season to 32.

Salah s strike at Anfield sees him break free of a tie with three of the competition s legendary names.

Alan Shearer set the bar with 31 goals in the 1995-96 season, the first when the competition was reduced to 20 teams, with Cristiano Ronaldo matching the England striker s feat 12 years later during his time at Manchester United.

Luis Suarez also reached the same number in the 2013-14 campaign with Liverpool with his last goal for the Mersey…

Wenger keen to keep hold of Oxlade-Chamberlain

Arsene Wenger has urged Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to pen a new contract with Arsenal, .

The winger, like high profile teammates Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez is heading into the final twelve months of his current deal at the Emirates Stadium and both Manchester City and Liverpool are monitoring the situation.

Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to the Gunners from Southampton in the summer of 2011 and has so far racked up one hundred and eighty-seven appearances for the North London outfit in all competitions, scoring twenty goals while he was part of the squads that won the FA Cup in both 2014 and 2015.

He has only started twelve Premier League games so far this season though his manager is determined to secure his services.

Internationally, he has been capped…

Finish line in sight for Juventus – Allegri

Massimiliano Allegri said Juventus can see the finish line as the unbeaten Serie A leaders closed in on an eighth successive Scudetto following their rout of Udinese.

Allegri rested most of his stars ahead of Tuesday s Champions League last-16 return leg against Atletico Madrid and Juve still eased to a 4-1 victory at home to Udinese.

Teenager Moise Kean made the most of his opportunity with a brace on Friday as Juve stayed undefeated thanks to a 24th league win from 27 matches this season.

Juve are 19 points clear of Napoli – who are scheduled to face Sassuolo on Sunday – and head coach Allegri told reporters: [We won and] Now we have 75 points, it s already possible to see the finish line and that s very important.

We did a great game, 4-1. Kean sc…

Juventus signing Ronaldo should give Milan optimism – Kaka

Juventus shock signing of Cristiano Ronaldo should give AC Milan optimism about becoming great again as they go through a turbulent period in their history, according to Serie A great Kaka.

Despite being one of Italy s biggest clubs, Milan have endured a difficult few years, failing to finish in the Champions League spots since the 2012-13 campaign.

The best Milan have done since then is two sixth-place finishes in the past two seasons, while they also have financial difficulties.

Their hopes of bridging the gap to champions Juve next term were surely dashed with their signing of reigning Ballon d Or holder Ronaldo, but Kaka – who enjoyed seven years in Milan across two spells – has a rather more optimistic outlook.

The Brazilian thinks Milan should a…
